Annular Eclipse - Astronomical Sites of the American Southwest May, 2012:
On May 20, 2012 an annular solar eclipse will pass over the Grand Canyon in the American Southwest. From a site overlooking the Colorado River and the start of the Grand Canyon, we will see a ringlike sun approach the western horizon while surrounded by some of the most visually stunning terrain in the United States. This tour we will begin in Los Angeles and include an observing night on the world famous 60 inch telescope at Mount Wilson Observatory. From there we will travel to see Palomar, Kitt Peak, and Lowell Observatories. In addition to these modern astronomical facilities we will also visit Mesa Verde, The Grand Canyon, Chaco Canyon, Barringer Meteor Crater, and sites in between. This tour is the perfect opportunity for travelers to experience the beauty of the American Southwest, see its famous landmarks, and to visit some of its lesser known places. Totality on the Great Barrier Reef - Australia - November 6-16, 2012:
On November 14 (local time), 2012 a total solar eclipse will pass through North Queensland, Australia. From a platform on the Great Barrier Reef travelers will stand in the centerline of the shadow of the Sun as it races past. On this tour we will also explore Sydney, visit Siding Springs Observatory, Parkes Radio Telescope, the Blue Mountains, and the Cairns area including the Karunda Rainforest, Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, the Great Barrier Reef, and Cairns itself. From the historical Parkes Radio Telescope to the natural beauty of the Great Barrier Reef, this tour will be a wonderful adventure that will engage the most experienced traveler. Join us for our annual southern skies stargazing tour to Easter Island! Every year, Sirius Travel will return to Easter Island with a small group of people to view the stars of the southern hemisphere and to explore the amazing archaeological and natural environment of the island. We time our trips to span the 3rd quarter or new lunar phases. In this way we will optimize our chances of seeing the sights of the southern hemisphere's night sky.
