2021 Eclipse trip to the South Orkney Islands

South Orkney Islands, Antarctica | December 4, 2021

View a total solar eclipse from the wild and remote South Orkney Islands in the Southern Ocean near the Antarctic Peninsula on December 4, 2021!  For many people, a trip to Antarctica is something they have only imagined doing because it seems too remote and expensive. Well now is the time to consider planning your trip, as a total solar eclipse will happen in Antarctic waters during the early morning of Friday 4th December 2021!

We are currently working out the logistics for viewing the eclipse on land from Laurie Island in the South Orkney Islands with the option to maneuver by ship if needed.   The South Orkney Islands are home to tundra vegetation consisting of mosses, lichens, and algae while seabirds, penguins, and seals feed in the surrounding waters.
