2015 Norway Total Solar Eclipse

Svalbard, Norway | March 17 - 25, 2015

Svalbard (formerly known by its Dutch name Spitsbergen), is a Norwegian Archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. Situated north of mainland Europe, it is about midway between continental Norway and the North Pole. The name Spitsbergen was given by its discoverer, Willem Barentsz, in 1596 and means “pointed mountains” (from the Dutch spits – pointed and bergen – mountains). The name changed from the Spitsbergen Archipelago to Svalbard in 1925 with the Svalbard Treaty which granted Norway sovereignty.

On March 20, 2015 there will be a total solar eclipse visible from Svalbard. On that date, Sirius Travel has chartered a Boeing 737 to transport travelers from Oslo to Svalbard for the event!
